I am starting a new series where I interview people who are matched betting – whether they have been matched betting for a few months or a few years, and whether they do this full time or just to top up their income. In the second of this series I'm talking to Clare, who blogs at Freddies Mummy. Clare is new to matched betting.

What is matched betting
If you aren't sure what it is, matched betting is a legal and tax free way to utlise offers that bookmakers give to new and existing customers. These offers can be turned into a guaranteed profit thanks to matched betting. It has been around for years now, and even The Guardian have written about it.
The amount of money that people make from matched betting varies and is dependent on a few things. How much money you can put into your matched betting pot, how much time you have and how many accounts you are able to create all impact your matched betting earnings.

When did you first hear about matched betting and what attracted you to it?
I first heard about it fairly recently from the Emma Drew website. I looked at her tips and really enjoyed reading her profit reports from Matched Betting. I then did some of my own research and was very attracted to Outplayed.com (Previously Outplayed.com (Previously Profit Accumulator)) as you could try it for free. I had seen a number of people making money from it, so I thought I would give it a go. Of course, the money attracted me to it! I am a full-time blogger now who has just started out, so any extra money would be a bonus.
When did you start matched betting and how did you find it?
I started Matched Betting in April 2018, and have been doing it every day since. After reading lots of tips and advice I decided to do it with the help of Outplayed.com (Previously Outplayed.com (Previously Profit Accumulator)).
I did the first 2 free bets and as promised I made approx. £40 just from these 2 bets. There are a number of very simple and easy to follow tutorials in Outplayed.com (Previously Outplayed.com (Previously Profit Accumulator)) which talks you through each and every step. From signing up to the bookies, and simple things like how to change the format to decimal. I did watch the videos a number of times before actually placing my bets.
I have made 2 mistakes in my 2 months, but that was completely my error. I do find that even now I have to be in total silence, so no husband and no child demanding my attention.
In my opinion, you do need to have approx. £1k that you can access to start doing this properly. Although I have lots of people start with as little as £60. This is a bit uncomfortable at first, especially when you have your bets placed, as the liability is often quite high.
How much have you made from matched betting?
Hmm, well this is a difficult one actually.
In my first month, I made just over £700. I was really impressed. But in May I actually lost £10. However, this is because of the World Cup season, so I had a lot of open bets that won’t pay out until either June or even July.
Also, a number of the free bets that I had to qualify for in May actually won’t get deposited to my account until the World Cup starts. So I will only make a small profit in June, but July should be a big month.

What advice would you give to someone who is still on the fence about matched betting?
Go for it. Absolutely, now is the perfect time with the free bets you will receive for the World Cup.
You can start with as little as £60 (although it will take a long time to make a big profit). I would definitely recommend using Outplayed.com (Previously Outplayed.com (Previously Profit Accumulator)) and not doing it yourself. They not only have lots of tutorials and forums to help, but they have calculators to show you what to lay your bet.
Also, they have all of the bookies on there so you can see which odds are similar so you know what matches/races to actually bet on. I couldn’t do it without this.
Also, Emma Drew has a Facebook group which is absolutely amazing. So if you are struggling with a bet, or need some advice. Pop on there and someone will gladly help you. I have needed it a number of times, and I always get at least one person happy to help me.
What are your matched betting goals for the rest of the year and beyond?
I would like to make on average £500 a month from matched betting going forward. I know some months (like May) it won’t be possible but I really think this is achievable. There are lots of reload offers, and new bookies opening up all the time. I still have lots to learn with matched betting, and am still only really doing the easiest bets. When I am more confident there are lots more I can do.
