Today is a very special day for me, as it marks my one year matched betting anniversary. A whole lot has changed for me in this past year, the biggest change being able to leave behind my full time job to run my blog. I am so glad that I finally got to grips with matched betting to help finance this journey. Let's put it this way: in 12 months I have earned £12,000 tax and risk free!
I have learned a lot along my journey and I can't believe that I waited so long to get started. Here's what I have learnt along the way.
Matched betting is a way to make some serious guaranteed profit by utilising the free bet offers that bookmakers offer. It has turned into one of my favourite side hustles because it is tax free and risk free! Even The Guardian have written about matched betting. People often ask me “if matched betting is so good, why isn't everyone doing it?” – and I have addressed some of the popular questions in a blog post.

The numbers I see others earning are real!
I am a lot more open to money making opportunities than the average Joe, but even I was astounded by the numbers that people were claiming to make every month. Once I got started I was earning that money for myself. If it wasn't for the free trial with Outplayed.com (Previously Outplayed.com (Previously Profit Accumulator)) then I probably wouldn't have started! I tried years ago using free websites but I just couldn't get my head around it.
Community is important
Whether it is the Outplayed.com (Previously Outplayed.com (Previously Profit Accumulator)) forums or just chatting to my friends who matched bet, having other people around to bounce ideas off, keep motivated and just generally check in with matched betting is really helpful to me. My favourite is seeing how much money other people are making and what they are then doing with that money! I've seen people go to Las Vegas, get married, start their business or even give up some days at work. The difference this money can make is astounding.

Even now, a year into matched betting, I have questions and I get stuck. The Outplayed.com (Previously Outplayed.com (Previously Profit Accumulator)) forum is bursting with lots of knowledge and often someone has asked my question already – and had an answer. There is a dedicated thread for every offer, with members sharing their knowledge and tips. This has saved me so much time and effort over the last year.

Getting gubbed from matched betting is where a bookie says “no more free bets for you” – your money isn't at risk, but you just aren't eligible for their free bet promotions. When I had my first gubbing I was absolutely gutted, I thought that it would mean I couldn't earn money from matched betting anymore. Whilst yes, the number of bookmaker offers I can complete has decreased, I am still making a profit every month from matched betting.

One of the biggest fears that people have before they start matched betting is that the offers will dry up. There have been a few times when the offers are quieter than others, but I have still managed to make a profit every single month. Now that I have been matched betting for a year I have my own proof that there is longevity in matched betting and I will be continuing. Even with the gubbings I've had, I can still make money every month! It has got harder though – the easy money is definitely in the sign up offers.

Matched betting isn't for everyone…
…and that is totally fine! Before matched betting I had placed a few bets – namely on big events like the Grand National, so I had a lot to learn about betting. It isn't for everyone, no matter what the reason. The good news is that there are plenty of ways to make money from home even if matched betting isn't for you.

How do you deal with the 6x wagering requirements?
You could be arbing but how much % do you in average lose when doing so?

Not many of the offers have 6x wagering, and if they do then this is clearly laid out in the offer instructions. You can also hope to ‘lose’ the bet (so it wins at the exchange) so that you don’t have to complete the rollover. As you can see, it hasn’t really been an issue because I am still £12,000 up!
I don’t understand your arbing question, are you getting ‘ARB’ and ‘mug’ confused? I spend an average of £10 a week keeping my accounts ‘healthy’ with mugging – and again, I am still £12,000 up!

I just started doing this- made my first £10 profit on one site. Are there any tips to prevent gubbing? I.e. don’t sign up to the bet sites directly from profit accumulator/sites so that your referrals arn’t being tracked etc.
There are loads of things you can do – removing iesnare from your computer, mugging your accounts and more. Good luck!

Yea, but there are plenty of risk free offers. Anything with a risk will have a warning on it.

Matched betting though, one month in and I’m £900 in profit which is great

I’m looking at reloads and weekly bet clubs I can only see a profit of a couple of hundred pound per month so I must be missing something?? Just can’t see how the £1000 profit in months after sign ups have dried up, is generated.

I have been matched betting for a short while and this a terrific article which outlines all the important points to consider. A question I have is that I notice the general trend of your profits has been downwards. I understand that you have not committed yourself wholeheartedly each month, but how much of that negative trend is due to being gubbed and what proportion of bookies have gubbed you? I’d like to know because it would be great to think that with effort, this could be a sustainable source of income that could generate £1k+ each month in the long-term.
For me it’s time and the offers coming through. It’s harder as the more you do the less that comes through.
I’d like to try matched betting and I’m going to wait until we remortgage at the end of the year, as you advised. Bit nervous about it but you’ve provided alot of info and I know I can come here for support. It does sound too good to be true!
